$5.00 Challenge- Spring is in the air.

I love a challenge !! There is nothing like it to get your creative juices flowing. around my house I am known as the "Queen of Cheap" , ",ooooppp's, DD's says I am supposed to say "frugal". I'm also known as the "Queen Junk Collecter

The rules for the challenge are to create something with our own two hands using only products found at the dollar store combined with items we already had around our homes. Not a problem for this frugal mom.
Spring is in the air in Texas so of course birdhouses and Easter are foremost on my mind.

I couldn't stop at just one project. I am on a roll. So I did 3
projects using items I had around the house
with a few extra treasures I found
at where else but Dollar Tree.

These are the supplies I used for the eggs.
I started with little birdhouses (from the Dollar Tree),a candle stick holder (another Dollar Tree purchase ),a little bit of my favorite white primer ( I always have that on hand, can't live without it) and went to town. If any of you know me I love roses... and they have to be Pink and they show up on everything. The dog runs when he sees me coming.

I started out priming them with my favorite white primer/paint.
Next came the roses.
Once the painting was done the fun began.
The roofs are covered in my favorite glitter
(another house staple).
Only the finest will do.
Next came the glue gun...
and the stands (candle stick holders)
and organza bows were added.
Whalaa, they are done.

Now for the egg holder for the Easter Bunny
Everyone knows he can't lay that many eggs
Of course he has to shop at Kroger's,LOL.
Out came the primer... again.
Gotta love that stuff.
I started out priming the inside
and out of the egg carton and the eggs
with my favorite white
primer/paint.

Here they come ..... Yep, you guessed it.
More Roses.
Very Victorian, Vintage
and Shabby Chic.
If I do say so myself.

Yes, I did it all for $5.00.
Can you believe it ?
Egg Carton- .88¢
(we had deviled eggs)
Birdhouse - $1.00- Dollar Tree
Plastic Eggs- $1.00 - Dollar Tree
Everything else was from my
stash.
Be sure to stop by http://www.livingwithlindsay.com/ to see all the other delightful creations everyone has made.

Of course if you can't make them I have more on sale at my website:

5 MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE

For all you chocolate lovers out there that don't want to eat an entire sheet cake,LOL. A friend sent this to me. She swears it works. I'm off to try it and will let you know.

5 MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE

4 tablespoons flour
4 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa
1 egg
3 tablespoons milk
3 tablespoons oil
3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)
A small splash of vanilla extract
1 large coffee mug

Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well. Add the egg and mix thoroughly. Pour in the milk and oil and mix well. Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla extract, and mix again. Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts. The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed! Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired.EAT! (this can serve 2 if you want to feel slightly more virtuous).
And why is this the most dangerous cake recipe in the world ? Because now we are all only 5 minutes away from chocolate cake at any time of the day or night!

Propagating Roses with Cuttings

I have a love hate relationship with gardening..... I love to see the roses bloom all summer.... I hate it that I forget to water or I leave the sprinkler on and forget it. I'm good at creating a small lake,LOL. Does anyone else do this or am I the only one with this problem ?

Hurricane Ike wrecked havoc with my plants last year. Yep, we still have things to remember from the experience 6 months later.

I wish I had thought to do this earlier but it's time to start with spring here in just a couple of days. It's so easy. I thought I would share it with you. It truly works.

Propagate Your Roses with Cuttings:

Choose healthy, leafy canes that are not too tough and about the diameter of a pencil. Using a sharp knife, cut off the soft tip of the cane and then cut it into 4- to 5-inch pieces. Each piece should have at least 2 nodes and some leaves. Strip off the bottom leaves to expose a node, then plant the cutting in moist soil and keep it in bright shade and high humidity. You can use containers covered with plastic bags, or set them in the ground in the shade and cover them with plastic jugs. You might try both methods. Take as many cuttings as you can to ensure success. Good luck!

Happy St. Patrick's Day

May your thoughts be as glad as the shamrocks, May your heart be as light as a song, May each day bring you bright, happy hours That stay with you all the year long. -Irish Blessing
This is a week of celebration at my house. DD tries to drag it out all month long and she does give it a very good try, too. Yesterday she turned 18. Ahhh, youth, how sweet it is. I miss my baby. Where did the time go ? Today we continue celebrating ... have to have a party for my fur baby... Eli. He joined us a year ago yesterday. Eli is so much easier to please. Give him a chewie and he's happy.

I hope everyone has a great day. Be sure to eat some cornbeef and cabbage for me and don't forget to wear something green.

Friday Flea Market - This and That

I am so excited. It's been so long since I've been able to post new pictures. When my computer crashed it took everything and hubby was afraid for me to use anything on here until he had it all fixed. Next was learning where everything is. Yep, it all moved to a new location. I have a hard enough time figuring out this computer. Please don't change things on me . I'm already afraid to click on anything for fear this thing will go up on smoke. That's alright for you younger ladies that know how to fix things but hey,I don't want to wait another month to get new things on my website.
Thankfully, My motto is " Never, ever give up." If I did I would never post anything on here again.

Here is my latest creation:

Yep,it's an egg carton. I couldn't wait to share it with you. If you are interested in purchasing it you will find it on my web site Ribbons Roses and More . Just click the link.

Of course you will need eggs to fill it.... Check these out while you are there.

Check back often. I'm adding new things as quickly as possible.

Sunday and Daylight Savings Time

It's here once again. It arrives every yr. and I count the days until it's over. I cringe when I hear those dreadful words " Daylight Savings time ". Some people love it,not me The days seem longer and it seems like we have more hrs. to get things done. Not so. Me,my body goes into rejection,LOL. For days it doesn't know when to eat or sleep and our schedules are messed up.Teachers dread it... the children are tired, hungry and bounce off the walls. More body clocks out of kilter.

DH swears I stay cranky. He's probably right but as I tell him this too will pass. Just give me time to regroup.

I would love to hear what you do to adjust to this change. We've got 8 months of it.

I won- Valentine's Day Blog Party

Remember the Valentine's Day Blog Party ?

There were so many pretty blogs to visit and so many wonderful give aways. I can't believe I won this gorgous pendant at Jewelry by Sonell. It is prettier than the picture. Thank you so much ladies. I never ever win anything so this was a wonderful surprise.
